What is panna cotta?


Panna cotta means cooked cream and is an Italian dessert. The origin of this dessert is unknown, but we only know that it is from the northern Italian region of Piedmont.

What are the ingredients for panna cotta?


  • 500 g fresh liquid cream 
  • Vanilla bean 
  • 80 g sugar 
  • 8 g gelatin in sheets 


How to prepare the panna cotta?



1. To prepare the panna cotta, the first step is to soak the gelatin leaves in cold water for 15 minutes.


2. Remove the seeds from the vanilla pod with the tip of a knife.


3. Put the cream in a saucepan and pour in the sugar.


4. Flavor with the seeds, if you want put also the vanilla pod in the saucepan of the cream.


5. Heat everything over low heat and when the cream comes to a boil, turn off the heat and remove the pod.


6. When the gelatin is softened, drain it.


7. Add it to the saucepan with the hot cream.


8. Stir until the gelatin has dissolved completely; there must be no lumps. Then fill 4 molds with a capacity of 150 ml each with the help of a ladle


9. When you finish, put the panna cotta molds in the refrigerator for at least 5 hours. 



How to serve the dessert panna cotta?



Once the dessert panna cotta is firm, immerse the molds for a few moments in boiling water then turn out onto a serving plate. 


Decorate to taste before serving and here you can choose how to decorate according to your taste. 


As a suggestion, you can serve the dessert with whipped cream and berries, the raspberry sauce or coulis, or leave it as it is because it is delicious without any addition.




How to store the panna cotta?



Panna cotta can be kept in the refrigerator for a maximum of 4 days, well covered with cling film, or in an airtight container.


You can also freeze the panna cotta once it is firm and uncovered. To defrost it, take it out from the freezer one before and put it in the refrigerator.

You can also use lemon zest instead of vanilla seeds.
