The pot pie can be prepared in several ways and there are many different types of pot pies but the chicken pot pie is the most popular variety of the dishWe will now learn how to make a delicious chicken pie in easy steps at home and you have the choice to use either a shortcrust pastry or puff pastry ready or made at home.

Chicken pot pie recipe.


What are the ingredients for the chicken pot pie?


Filling ingredients:


  • One big white onion peeled and chopped
  • 3 medium carrots peeled and chopped
  • 4 medium chicken breast about 500 g 
  • 2 stick celery chopped.
  • 2 teaspoon fresh thyme chopped you can use the dried one if you don`t have the fresh one
  • One teaspoon of salt 
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • One clove of garlic smashed
  • 40 g flour.
  • 150 g of mozzarella cheese.

  • Two tablespoons of olive oil or vegetable oil to taste.
  • 300 ml of milk.



Dough ingredients:


1. Here in this chicken pie, you can choose to use either a short crust pastry or puff pastry but if you want to have more crunch, use short crust pastry. 

2. You can also do it at home or buy it ready.


  • 400 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 150 g butter or margarine
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons cold water
  • If you use the ready one you need two sheets of short crust pastry or puff pastry.



How to make chicken pot pie?


Dough preparation:


1. First we should prepare the dough: we mix the flour, butter, salt, and water we mix until the mixture is homogeneous with each other. Put the dough in the fridge. 

2. Then, divide the dough into two halves, then bring a pie dish, and roll into the first half of the dough. 


We go now to prepare the filling.



Filling preparation:


1. Put a pan with oil on the fire, wait until it warms a little bit, then add the chicken cut into small pieces, salt, and black pepper. Stir them well.

2. Add the onion, the garlic, stir and cook all for about 5 - 10 minutes.
 
3. Then add in the vegetables and cook for a further 5 minutes until they start to soften.

4After 5 minutes add the flour, stir well and add the milk gradually without stopping stirring until the sauce is smooth. 

5. Then cover the pan and leave the sauce to cook for another 5 minutes until it thickens. 

6. Switch off the fire add the thyme and mozzarella cheese. 

7. Then, divide the dough into two halves, then bring a pie dish, and roll into the first half of the dough. 

8. Put the chicken and vegetable mixture inside, the mixture should be cold, then put the other half of the dough on the face and press the sides with the fork.

9. Preheat the oven to 200 C, Cook the pie for 40 minutes or until the pastry is crisp and golden.
 
10. Take the pie pot out of the oven. cut the pie and serve it hot.



How to serve the chicken pot pie?

- Cut the pie and serve it hot.

- You can serve it for dinner as a light meal with a green salad to taste or only as it is.
